Automotive journalists and enthusiasts alike were at the Detroit Auto Show, which served as the venue for the world premiere of Chrysler LLC’s four electric vehicles. Adding to the excitement was the surprise unveiling of the concept car for the company’s upcoming electric vehicle called the 200C EV.

The 200C EV concept car donned the similar electric drive system used in the other Chrysler EVs shown in Detroit, such as the Jeep Wrangler Unlimited EV, Town & Country EV minivan, and the Jeep Patriot EV. According to Jim Press, Chrysler co-President, the line of EVs showcased at the Detroit show serves as evidence of the company’s ongoing plan to invest in EVs that will continue well into the next years.

All the vehicle features and functions of the 200C EV are easily managed and controlled through a tablet PC and a multimedia touch screen, which has a “techno-leaf” portion on the screen that dedicates itself to the passenger. The 200C EV has a small gas engine and an electric generator that can produce enough electricity to stretch the driving range to up to 400 miles. Chrysler also says that the 200C EV can go from 0 to 60 mph in 7.0 seconds and can go up to 40 miles using only the battery power.

The company has previously said that they have plans to get at least one of their green car models rolling into production in 2010. Now, Chrysler promises that 2013 will see at least three more of their electric vehicles going into production. Frank Klegon, Chrysler’s product development executive VP, said that the company’s line of EV prototypes shows that they’re right on track in making electric vehicles a staple in people’s garages.
